Why the lock is priced separately. A basic lockset and a high-security one are not the same part, and pretending otherwise is how people end up surprised at the end. My labour is fixed. The lock is what it is, you hear the number before I fit it, and if you would rather buy the lock yourself I'll fit it for the same $35. The warranty on a lock you supply is between you and the shop, but my work fitting it is guaranteed either way.
Published price guides put a Geelong house lockout from around $220, with after-hours call-out fees of $100–$250 landing on top before anyone touches the door. I'd rather charge one fair number and keep the phone ringing.

How much does a locksmith cost in Geelong?
A standard house lockout with Lock Services is $145 all up — that includes the call-out, my travel, my time and GST. If the lock also needs replacing while I'm there, it's $35 on top for the fitting, plus the lock itself — and I tell you what that lock costs before I fit it. Most standard locks are $45 to $90. That $35 is the add-on rate because I'm already at your door; a lock change or rekey booked on its own is quoted on the phone. Rekeying, deadbolts, window locks and smart locks are quoted before I leave, and the number I give you is the number on the invoice.
How quickly can you get to me?
Around Geelong I'm usually with you inside the hour, and often a lot sooner. Werribee, Tarneit and the western suburbs depend on where I am when you ring. I'll give you an honest arrival time on the phone rather than a number designed to stop you calling someone else.
Do you charge more at night or on weekends?
No. A lockout at 2am is the same price as a lockout at 2pm. There's no after-hours loading and no weekend surcharge.
Will you damage my door or drill the lock?
The vast majority of lockouts open without damage. Drilling is a last resort, not a shortcut — and if a lock genuinely can't be picked, I'll tell you what it will cost to replace it before anything is cut.
What if I've lost my keys altogether?
I can rekey the existing locks so the lost keys no longer work, which is usually cheaper than replacing hardware, or fit new locks and key them alike so one key runs the whole house.
Do you check that I actually live there?
Yes, and it takes about thirty seconds. Your digital licence on your phone is fine. If your wallet and your phone are both inside, don't worry about it — mail with your name on it once we're in, a neighbour who knows you, or your lease on your email all work. Nobody has ever been left standing outside over this. It's the same check that stops a stranger doing this to your place.
How do I pay?
Card, bank transfer or cash. If your wallet is on the other side of the door, you pay once you're back inside — or by transfer afterwards if you'd rather. You get a proper tax invoice with GST itemised either way.
